Former co-owner and senior manager of Sierra Llorona Panama Lodge, Gonzalo Horna has been birding the central Panama and the adjacent lowlands and highlands areas since 1997.

Attending groups and individuals, he has mastered the needs and logistics to make a birder´s journey a successful one. 

In 2007, he launched Panama Bird Guide Co., a leading birding  tours company dedicated to promote such tours whithin  Panama and specializing in the area of Central Panama (Soberania National Park -Pacific side) and on  Achiote Road (San Lorenzo National Park -caribbean side).  As complement, Gonzalo implemented a unique Birding By Boat Tour to explore avifauna (and related birds),  www.birdingbyboattour.com  from the fresh water of Gatun Lake - (Panama Canal basin)  which are often difficult to see on foot even in secluded areas. On request, other Panama areas are also visited for birding like El Valle, Cerro Azul, Darien and Chiriqui.

Gonzalo Horna is an active member of the Panama Audubon Society (PAS).  He has been actively involved with the Embera Quera indian community located at the Panama Canal bassin (on the caribbean east side) in helping them develop a tourism program with emphasis on birding.  And with the local government conservation programs he have served at national level. 

Its wide ranging interests include butterfly, mammals, insects, good food, cookin and hosting.

Has participated in several Christmas Bird Counts for the Panama Audubon Society, and profesionaly as a Bird Guide has served locals and  international birding operators like Holbrook Travels (Elder Hostel), the American Birding Asocciation, Panama La Verde, Ancon Expeditions, Eco-Circuitos, Hotel Playa Blanca, Aventuras 2000, Panama Pete Adventures, Aventuras 2000 and many others

Biologist by profession, Mario is a distinguish and well considered member of its community.  Is a passionate and avid birding guide who knows all the birds and  hotspots and is always ready to help you look for the target bird you are after.  

He knows the area well and has extensive knowledge of its birds. His amaising bird list  spotted in El Valle area  alone,  is close to the 400 species.  

A true son of his home town,  El Valle, has  birded all the surrounded mountains and far beyong  his home province and town where he owns and operates  in conjuntion with his wife a  serpentarium.  An educational center avocated to the preservation of snakes. Showing and maintaining and example of most of the dangerous (venenums) species of Panama and other amphibius and reptiles.
