BIRDING ALTERNATIVES   

We have divided Central Panama into three  main regions covering different habitats.  Those regions are also subdivided into areas taken from "The Panama Canal Birding Trail" map, made by  Panama Audubon Society (PAS)  in conjuntion with SAID and BirdLife International.

PACIFIC REGION

  • Here we will be birding different areas covering the mudflats of Panama City, Panama Viejo, Costa del Este, The Metropolitan City Park, Diablo, Ammo Dump, Pipeline Road,  Old Gamboa Road, Plantation Road, El Charco Trail, Gamboa Town and surroundings. Send for complete information.

CARIBBEAN REGION

  • We will cover the areas of the Gatun Dam, Gatun Drop Zone,Tiger Trail, Escobal Road,Achiote Road, Providencia, El Trogon Trail and  shade coffe plantation trails.   Fort Sherman and  San Lorenzo National Park will include a walk on the Black Tank Road, Skunk Hollow Road and a visit to Galeta Island, Margarita Tank Farm and Rancho Ramos time permiting. PANAMA CANAL - GATUN LAKE

  • At this point of the tour,  you will be birding on a boat (a one day optional tour) covering the afluents of Gatun Lake (Panama Canal basin) surrounded by  freshwater with abundant aquatic vegetation,  natural swamps, marshes, lagoons, savannas, grasslands and pristine forest.  All in a freswater environment. FOOTHILLS NEAR PANAMA CITY

  • We will visit  the areas of Cerro Azul (calle Maipo, El Vigia. Rio Indio), Cerro Jefe and El Valle (cerro El Gaital, La Mesa) and  Altos del Maria in search of their specialties and the avifauna related to the area (highland-foothills). Send for complete information.

A.-   The Central Panama Birding Tour 

Is our number one, and most complete birding tour for Central Panama.  In this 12 day itinerary we cover most of the Alternative Regions  mention above with all the bird probabilities.  Expect to see more that 270 species. B.-   The One Day Birding Tour

In this section you will find a description for every One Day tour we offer by area, giving you the flexibility of conforming a personal itinerary depending on your interest and time availability.  This option gives you the oportunity of making a tour as long or as short as your are capable of. A weekend or a one day tour.

C.-   Other Tours and Activities  

  • Barro Colorado Island (run by the Smith Zonian Tropical Research Institude - STRI-)  a complete day tour - reservation required in advance.

  • Panama Canal Transit - Partial  - a complete day tour advance reservation require.

  • A visit to the Embera Quera  indian village.  A complete or partial day tour here
