 FAQ

Q. Can the Birding Boat-Mobile® get close to the birds?
A. Yes. Our 24 inches shallow draft allows us to get "very close and personal" with birds. And it is much easier to disembark for short walks into secluded spots along the way.
 

Q. Are children allowed on The Birding By Boat Tour?
A. Yes, children are allowed on our tour. Parents should take in consideration that the tour lasts aprox.  5 hours.  We do not allow any running or horseplay on the
Birding Boat-Mobile®.. Parents are responsible for their children and must not allow them in any way to disturb the other passengers aboard the boat.  We are very strict at this.

Q. How long the birding tour  and how long from Panama city to departure port?
A. From Panama City to Gatun river ramp will take approximately 75 minutes.  From Colon City to the boat ramp takes about 25 minutes.  The Birding By Boat Tour  takes approximately 5 hours.

Q. Are there restrooms on board the Birding Boat-Mobile®. ?
A. No restroom on board of the  Birding Boat-Mobile.

Q. Will the birding tour be with a Birding guide?
A. Yes, we are proud to have on board the best local English speaking guide during the tour. 

Q. What birds should we see?                                                       A.  Expect to see birds related to Central Panama ( Bird List) like raptors, water birds, undergrowth, middle and upper levels birds that favors humid forest, aquatic vegetation,  freshwater natural swamps, marshes, lagoons, savannas and grasslands including migrants.

Q. Can I bring my own spotting scope?
A. Absolutely. All the equipment that can be easily use on board is welcome.

Q. Will the boat stop for viewing and photographing?
A. Yes. The Birding Boat-Mobile is a pontoon with a shallow draft and can drift close to shore. The boat captain will make sure everyone on board takes a good look at targets, stopping when necessary, and allowing you to observe and photograph.

Q. Are reservations recommended?

A. Yes, and we are happy to reserve your trip aboard the Birding Boat-Mobile®.  Walk-ons are also welcomed when space is available. We suggest that you phone (507) 6728-3501 to check availability the day before.

Q. Is food and drink available on board the Birding Boat-Mobile®. ?
A. We provide water and soft drink for every participant.  The optional visit to the Embera's Indian village will provide a light typical Indian meal: fried fish with smash plantain and fruit of the season. Early notification required. The cost is not included in the tour price.

Q. Are pets allowed on the Birding Boat-Mobile® birding tours?
A. No room for pets. 

Q. Will I get “seasick”?
A. There are no guarantee that you won't, but the Birding Boat-Mobile is a 8 x 16 foot pontoon boat  that provides an extremely smooth ride and all the tour is done in very calm fresh water. 

Q. How long before departure should I arrive?
A. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before departure time. There is a required safety meeting minutes before departure and all customers must attend this meeting before boarding the boat.

Q. What should I bring?
A. Binoculars, scopes and cameras, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, mosquito repellent and money for the Embera's Indian village visit. Depending on weather conditions, a poncho is fine for rain.

Q. Is there a place to get out of the weather while on board the Birding Boat-Mobile®?
A. Yes, there are thatch roof rustic ranches along the way that can be use even do the pontoon has a “bimini top” partially to cover from the rain and sun.

Q. Are major credit cards accepted?
A. We only accept cash.

Q. Are group rates available?
A. Yes, we offer group rates, with a minimum of 6 people required for a
group rate. With larger groups, the discount increases and on all group
rates, one person must pay for the entire group. In such cases other boats will be used.  Please call (507) 6728-3501 or email info@birdingbyboattour.com for more information.

Q. If it is raining, will the trip be canceled?
A. Actually No.  Our experience dictates that a bad weather day could be the best birding day ever. The Birding Boat-Mobile®  does have a canopy roof and participants can use ponchos.  Boat captain will have the last word.

Q. Are gratuities for the crew and guide included in the tour price?
A. No, but they all work very hard to provide you with a great birding experience and appreciate your tips.
